Thank you for your interest in our School. We're a Zambian Christian school that has been delivering quality education and supporting Zambian families since 1995.
Ebenezer School takes pride in delivering quality education in Zambia. Our main campus in Mazabuka has 15 classrooms and 200 students between grade 1 to grade 12.
History
In 1995, Ebenezer Schools opened it's doors as a nursery in an 800 square foot house. The vision was clear from it's inception, "Build a school network that will build a foundation for the next generation of leaders in the Southern African country of Zambia"
The first school location was an uptown residential neighbourhood of Kaonga, in Mazabuka. Mazabuka is a southern province town, 1.5 hour drive from Lusaka. The life line of the town was the Nakambala Sugar Estates, that made 99% of the sugar consumed in Zambia.
In the first year, the school year ended with a total of 5 students. It was a proud year for the school. The uncertainty of a school startup is if kids would come back in for another year of school? January 1996 came around and the school openned with 4 students, one of the parents had withdrawn their child for a rival school. Ebenezer knew it had to start advertising and marketing the school as one providing quality education with a dedicated focus on the students. The 1 full time staff was encouraged to evangelize the new school in the area where she lived. Peggy worked the 7hour days at St. Edmunds school then made her walk downtown to Ebenezer passing through as many homes as she could to encourage parents to send their children to school. We also talked to a local welder to make a sign for us that we placed on one of the downtown streets to get more visibility for the school.
It worked, by February, we were up to 9 children. Now we had to deliver on the quality. We bought a desktop computer running Windows95, drew colorful learning aids at home, consulted with other successful schools in Lusaka. Peggy created a network of successful head teachers and tapped into thier strengths and experiences regularly. Being funded completely by the Sinyama family paycheck to paycheck, growth was slow but steady. The level of academic excellence at Ebenezer was excelling faster than the number of students. In 1997, all 4 of the first 4 students at Ebenezer's nursery gained admission to the then best private school in the area, Nakambala Private School, a school run by Zambia Sugar company. Reportedly, 2 of the 4 students were among the top 3 students in the grade 1 admission test held by Nakambala Private School. It was a great feeling, the big hard work was paying off.
In Ebenezer's early days, the inspiration and motivation to keep the school running was received solely from the faces of the kids every time we walked into the house school. By the 5 year, 2001 Ebenezer had close to 38 students. Other entrepreneurs in the community were beginning to think they could do it too.
Numerous schools sprung up and the competition was on. Ebenezer had to step itself up again, the head teacher at one of Zambia's most successful family owned schools Rhodespark, a personal friend of Peggy recommended the formalization of a head teacher position. 3 candidates were interviewed for the position, including one recommended by the Rhodespark headteacher. A decision was made and a head teacher was hired. At this time, the school was not even close to breaking even, so the teacher's salaries and head teacher salaries were paid out of family paychecks.
Fast forward to 2022, Ebenezer has over 850 students and up to grade 12. It is beginning to look at a school digital transformation of it's Teacher, Student and Invoicing operations through the deployment of KOZO School Management System - which provides a Zambian built School Management System.
